Alpine Strawberry 'White Soul' - (Fragaria vesca) |
|
The Alpine Strawberry "White Soul" is a hardy perennial that provides fresh strawberries in small spaces. Ongoing blooms, delicious fruits, easy. Vigorous, runnerless, heavy-cropping variety with the same leaf, size and structure as the red only the berries are white, very sweet, slightly larger, and have a hint of pineapple in their taste.
The compact, heavy blooming, runnerless perennial plants produce large amounts of fragrant and tasty strawberries continuously from spring through fall. Space the plants at least 18" apart or use a very large container for maximum production. Superb in containers. Will often naturalize in partly shaded well watered areas of your garden. Day-neutral, grows best in zones 5-8, but will tolerate colder climates with heavy mulching.
Days to Maturity: 100-120 to fruit
Approx 30 seeds per pack

Tasets like heaven |
| A friend of mine who is a master canner remarked to me that the best way to describe this strawberry is that- if heaven had a taste, this would be it. Really the white alpine strawberries are much sweeter than the red and quite delicious. Interestingly, I grew red and white next to eachother and got a plant with berries that each berry is half white and half red, almost like a stripe. |

you have to see it to believe it |
| white strawberries??? We get a lot of funny comments - can they really be eaten? Well, they can, and they are very good. They spread by seed - one berry dropped will give lots of little plants next year. Good groundcover, nice under roses. They produce for many months each summer. Good dried, and makes exceptionally good jam. |
