Cimarron Lettuce (romaine) - (Lactuca sativa) |
|
Cimmarron Lettuce is an heirloom from the 18th century. Also called Little Leprechaun. Beautiful deep red romaine, 10”-12" tall with a crisp, creamy yellow-bronze center with a tender texture and great flavor.
Large, sturdy plants virtually impervious to bolting. Both cold and heat hardy. Excellent for home gardeners. For the longest shelf life, harvest greens late in the day.

Cimarron Lettuce |
| I did not get a chance to plant lettuce in early spring this year. Seeing what hot weather does to lettuce in the past ,I decided to try types with good heat tolerance. I was skeptical , until I saw Cimarron grow . Hardly a blemish or bug bite either.I practice organic ,compost gardening, using no pesticides. Gorgeous red romaine and great tasting also ! Ice Queen and St.Annes have been equally successful for me too . Pleasantly surprised and glad I tried them . |

Cimarron stood out. |
| The Master Gardeners at the historic Francis Land House Heirloom Vegetable Garden in Virginia Beach, Virginia are providing feedback on the donated seeds. Our garden consists of 35 raised beds, each four feet by twenty feet. The garden receives full sun all day and is fertilized with a combination of compost and commercial organic fertilizer. As with beets, lettuce does well here, both in the spring and fall.
Of all the lettuce we grew, some 20 varieties, Cimarron stood out. Its color, texture and height were outstanding and taste was excellent. |
