Early Palla Rossa Raddichio is an Italian Chioggia type of chicory, Palla Rossa means "red ball" in Italian. Deep green outer leaves protect a tight, 4-7" diameter, round wine-red head with white ribs.
Best as a fall or cool season crop, develops flavor and color as the cooler season progresses.
Usually added to salads for its rich texture and slightly bitter taste, radicchio is also a colorful garnish on the table or plate. Its unique color and flavor are well suited to being steamed, sauteed, or stir-fried in your favorite vegetable or meat dish.
