Here you can easily see all of the newest arrivals for the 2012 season. They will be posted as they arrive, so check back often to see what is coming in the 2012 Heirloom Seeds catalog. Most will be in the catalog, but there always seems to be a few that don't quite make it in time to be in the catalog, but they will be here!
We have hand selected these varieties and new products- some from customer requests, some from our mentor's suggestions, and some from our experiences, grow-outs and equipment that we have used successfully. A few are the results of several years of traditional plant breeding.

Korean Hyssop is also known as wrinkled giant hyssop, Korean hyssop, purple giant hyssop, and Korean licorice mint. The whole plant is intensely mint scented. The aromatic licorice mint leaves are deep glossy green with hint of purple to undersides and 2-6" spikes of deep violet-blue-purple flowers will bloom all summer if deadheaded to prevent seed set.
Bushy plant grows 2 ft tall and 15 in. wide and is reported to be helpful for cold symptoms and low energy problems. Improves digestion and boosts immune system function with it's potent anti-oxidants. Use crushed leaves in poultices for bruises or small wounds to help speed healing.
Attracts bees and makes a tasty tea that helps clear the sinuses. Tolerates more moisture and humity than other hyssops making it highly suited to climates outside the Western US.

Water Pepper, Wasabi Plant or Smartweed is known for its wasabi-like spice. A replacement for Wasabi (Horseradish) Root.
In Japan the leaves are used as a vegetable - these are from the cultivar, not the wild type which has a far more pungent taste. Now you can have the flavor of wasabi in your own garden. Can sprout seed for a lighter horseradish flavor.
Real wasabi is difficult to cultivate only growing along stream beds in mountain rivers in its native Japan, and that makes it quite expensive: as high as $70 to $100 per pound. Due to its high cost, a common substitute is a mixture of (western) horseradish (which normally costs less than $1/pound wholesale), mustard, and green food coloring.

Licorice is a perennial herb having a network of woody rhizomes and erect stems with pale purple or white flowers. Plants are ready for harvesting after 3-5 years, the entire plant is dug up and the rhizomes are cut and washed. One of the most widely known and used medicines of ancient history, both by the Assyrians and Chinese since around 2000 BC.
Used for both flavoring and medicine, many sweets, drinks and liqueurs are made from the licorice juice made from boiling the rhizomes. Widely used in bronchial problems such as catarrh, bronchitis, cold, flu and coughs. Also used in Chinese medicine.
