White Sage - (Salvia apiana) |
|
The beautiful white foliage of this indigenous plant sets off the silver-blue spikes of flowers. The most highly valued and revered of all North American Sages, it is burned ceremonially for purification - to cleanse the spirit and welcome positive thoughts. This is a broad leaf sage which is prized for its strong aromatic properties. This sage has the strongest scent of all sages we have. Perennial in zones 6-10, annual elsewhere to 3'
The leaves are used to make smudge sticks, used in sweat lodges or taken as a tea to cure colds. Extremely drought tolerant. Mulch crown deeply with sand over the winter.
To harvest, cut the leafy wands in fall, semi-dry, then tie them into bundles for use during the winter.
Also a good bee plant. Approx 100 seeds per pack
Seed germination tends to be naturally low and sporadic.
