Wild basil is a native plant with pink violet flowers that bloom July to September. Leaves are used fresh in salads or dried in rice, fish, vegetable and egg dishes. A sweet, aromatic herb tea is made from the fresh leaves. Medicinally, it has astringent, cardiotonic, carminatives and expectorant properties.
