Charlie Chaplin Tomato - (Lycopersicon lycopersicum)

$3.15

The Charlie Chaplin Tomato is very unique, interesting and personable, much like the famed silent actor himself! Fruit has exceptional old-fashioned rich heirloom tomato taste with 4 - 10 oz ruffled to deeply-lobed fruit that range from almost round and slightly flattened to elongated and pear-shaped. Although the physical characteristics may change, the production and flavor is always very good. The mature fruit are almost hollow, making a great stuffing tomato for an entrée, use as a centerpiece on a serving or relish tray or slice them into decorative rings to grab your guests attention and tastebuds.

Plants are a lower-growing bushy type that like to spread out a bit, but will still need trellising. Grows to about 4 - 5 feet.

Planting Instructions

Indoors: 6 - 8 weeks before last frost sow 1/4" deep and keep soil evenly moist at 60- 70 degrees F. When the second set of leaves appears, transplant seedlings to individual pots.

Harden off 2 weeks before setting out, when weather is fully warm, in a spot with at least 8 hours of sun daily. Plant seedlings up to 2" under the first leaves, at least 3' apart. Water deeply and well in dry weather.

Outdoors: Sow as above, directly in site when weather is warm.
