Mariska dill is a little known but hardy and compact variety with high essential oils and a pungent aroma. It is a great dill for the kitchen garden, windowsill or containers. It originated in the Rostov region near the Caspian Sea.
Uniquely flavored, Dill offers culinary seeds and leaves. Used in dill pickles, vinegar and potato salad. Immature umbels and leaves flavor sour cream, meat and fish. The mineral-rich seeds benefits a salt-free dies and flavor savory and sweet dishes. The seeds aid digestion and an infusion reduces flatulence, hiccups, stomach pains and insomnia.

This dill has a wonderful taste when fresh foliage is added salads or other dishes. It is a well behaved small plant about 18 inches tall for me. But has a preference for cooler temps, dying out in the heat of our summers. I find it will reseed and sprouts early, early spring which is an indicator of when to replant. Loving dill, I am charmed by Mariska and will continue to grow it in my raised beds.
