Description
Vegetable Spaghetti Winter Squash
Rounded cylindrical buff-tan fruits are 8-12" long and 5-6" in diameter. 5-7 fruits grow per plant, and are mature when skin color changes from cream to bright yellow. They will keep up to six months.
History
An 1890s Chinese heirloom from Manchuria. First introduced in 1934 by Sakata Seed Corp., Yokohama. It was introduced in North America by W. Atlee Burpee & Co. in 1936.
Uses
Boiled or baked, the flesh flakes out in spaghetti like strands.
Growing Tip
Sow 5 seeds per hill, 4' apart. Thin to best 2-3 plants. Squash seeds dislike cold soil. It's better to wait until the soil is warm to plant the seeds.
