How Does a Widger Work?

The widger's simple design hides its incredible versatility. Let's break down how this essential tool helps with two crucial gardening tasks –

Think of the widger's pointed tip as a miniature gardening spade. It's perfect for creating those precisely sized, shallow holes that give your seeds the best start for strong growth. The widger's narrow shape also gives you excellent control over seed spacing. This helps prevent overcrowding, leading to competition for resources and weaker seedlings, saving you the hassle of thinning them out later. 

The widger's scoop-like end acts as a gentle cradle for your seedlings. When transplanting, carefully slide the widger down the starting cell wall and under the plant. The curved shape supports the roots and a little bit of its starter soil, minimizing any shock during the move. If you've got a slightly bigger seedling, don't worry – the wider end of the widger will give it the extra support it needs. 

Cindy draws the small end through the soil, creating a perfectly sized tiny trench to plant smaller seeds like radishes or beets. 

It is the right size for small weeding in and around tender seedlings - works equally well in trays and pots and the garden itself.
