Pea
Heirloom peas are an ancient crop, perhaps as old as wheat or barley. Originating in the Eastern Mediterranean, dry peas have been found in Switzerland dating to about 3,000 years ago. Garden peas were grown and dried for food, and sugar snap peas were described in England in the 1650s.
Peas are one of the first seeds to be sown in the springtime garden.
