Description
California Wonder Red Sweet Pepper – America’s Favorite Bell Pepper
After nearly a century, this is still the standard by which all other bell peppers are judged, and widely considered the best in class. Since being introduced in 1928 the peppers are always well-formed with sweet-flavored, thick-fleshed fruits beginning as glossy green, three- to four-lobed blocky globes that mature to a bright red. Pick either at the green, yellow-orange or red stage for different flavors. Easily becomes the go-to staple for stuffing, chopping into salads, roasting, or grilling.
Highly productive plants are 18 - 24" tall, upright, sturdy and hardy. Easy-growing with good leaf cover shading the fruits, it produces continually in good conditions.
History
Indigenous to Central and South America, peppers were developed into a crop plant around 3,000 BC or perhaps even earlier. Columbus introduced Capsicum into Europe and it also spread to Africa and Asia.
Uses
Peppers are used fresh, dried, and cooked. Peppers contain vitamins A and C.
