Description
Black Beauty Eggplant - A Garden Classic
This classic beauty eggplant is the standard by which all other large eggplants are measured. Bushy spreading 24-30" tall plants with 4-6" purplish black smooth oval fruits, blunt and broad at blossom end, retains color well, 1-3 lbs. High quality, fine flavor, yields well in the North if the season is long.
Very productive and early, uniform ripening makes this the eggplant of choice by market growers and home gardeners.
Introduced in 1902 by W. Atlee Burpee.
History
Eggplants were cultivated in India and China, where it was known since 500 BC. It migrated to Africa and Europe through Arabia and Persia. Eggplant gained popularity in southern Europe toward the end of the 17th century.

Best used fresh, just after harvesting.
Growing Tip
Grow eggplant in the sunniest spot you can find and provide good drainage. Eggplants have a shallow root system. They need warm soil to thrive.
