Japanese mustard with large thick tender deep purple-red savoyed leaves with white midribs with a strong mustard flavor.
Excellent for salads with a unique and spicy flavor different than other mustard's. Pick young for milder flavor. Use like spinach or chard to mix with lettuce.
History
Mustard traveled from Central Asia and the Himalayas, from where it spread to India, the Caucasus and the Orient. In China, numerous types were developed as green vegetables and as a spice.
Uses
Mustard's can be cooked or stir-fried or just eaten fresh. Very rich in minerals and vitamins A and C. Harvest young for best flavors.
