Goldman's Italian-American Tomato - (Lycopersicon lycopersicum) |
|
The famous Goldman's Italian-American Tomato has ongoing production of two physical expressions of this tomato- either large, red, voluptuous pear shaped; or a smaller paste type shape. Exceptional flavor and few seeds. Makes one of the creamiest tomato sauces. Named by Amy Goldman for her father’s grocery store in Brooklyn after she found this at a roadside grocery store in Cernobbio, Italy.
Certified Organic
Indeterminate.
Approx 45 seeds per pack
Planting Instructions
Indoors: 5 - 7 weeks before last frost sow 1/4" deep and keep soil evenly moist at 60- 70 degrees F. When the second set of leaves appears, transplant seedlings to individual pots.
Harden off 2 weeks before setting out, when weather is fully warm, in a spot with at least 8 hours of sun daily. Plant seedlings up to 2" under the first leaves, at least 3' apart. Water deeply and well in dry weather.
Outdoors: Sow as above, directly in site when weather is warm.

Small Paste |
| The 4 plants that I grew from this seed were the paste-like variation. They were strait, just under 3 inches in length and had ribs that went around the tomato--as if someone held it in their hand and squeezed it to put imprints on it. Fine flavor and amazing productivity. This seed is very hard to find. |

BEST GIANT RED TOMATO |
| This year 2011 was THE year for Giant Italian in my urban garden. The first of all the tomatos ripe, even before the quikie hybrid variety of all the neighbors, and the Hugest tastiest tomato around. While bringing this one out to share, many commented on its shape, color, and size- resembling a pumpkin. The largest I grew was larger than the head of an infant. This should really be listed in the huge tomato section. The best thing about this variety, besides the perfect tomato taste, and besides getting more than 20 fruits off a single plant, is that it has a small seed cavity with very little juice. That makes it excellent for slicing on a sandwich and for preservation. I got a whole quart of tomato, from ONE Giant Italian tomato. I have grown this variety before in a previous garden site, and havent seen such great results. But for 2011, best large red tomato, goes to Giant Italian. P.S. The seeds I used to start this were 8 years old and also had 100% germination. |
