Description

Fragrant Flower Mix

This seed mix has been carefully hand-selected with both annual and perennial flowers for a painter’s palette full of gorgeous colors with lovely, captivating fragrances all season long. The flowers in this mix will give your garden sweet floral, carnation, citrus, lavender, lemon, and sweet perfume scents.

In addition to the pretty faces and enchanting fragrances, these flowers work hard for you in other, less obvious ways – not only will the continual blooms and colors keep your attention, but the different varieties attract numerous pollinators like crazy, providing both nectar and pollen to feed and nourish bees, butterflies and other flying pollinators. This mix blooms early to late season, giving the longest possible colors and scents for you, but attracting and feeding those indispensable pollinators all season long. Their root systems help feed and improve the soil while adding organic matter and improving air and water filtration.

A Peek at the Mix

  • Calendula (Calendula officinalis):  A cool-season anchor with resinous petals that provides early-season nectar and protects the soil surface as a sturdy ground cover.
  • Cottage Pinks & Sweet William (Dianthus plumarius / barbatus):  These varieties offer a spicy, clove-and-nutmeg fragrance profile and a dense, mounding habit that thrives in well-drained soil.
  • Evening Scented Stock (Matthiola longipetala):  A specialist that releases a heady, intoxicating perfume as the sun sets to attract nocturnal pollinators.
  • Four O’Clock (Mirabilis jalapa):  Known for its heat-wave resilience, these blooms open in the late afternoon, filling the air with a sweet, citrus-tinged scent.
  • French Marigold (Tagetes patula):  Provides a sharp, musky aroma and serves as a functional deterrent to certain soil-borne pests during the height of summer.
  • Lavender Hyssop (Agastache foeniculum):  A powerhouse for honeybees, offering a complex blend of licorice and mint aromas at its mid-summer physiological peak.
  • Lemon Mint (Monarda citriodora):  Delivers a sharp, lemony brightness that refreshes the air and provides high-quality forage for native pollinators.
  • Sweet Alyssum (Lobularia maritima):  A low-growing cool-season specialist that creates a honey-scented mat to suppress weeds and retain soil moisture.
  • Siberian Wallflower & Iceland Poppy:  Quick-growing early arrivals that provide burnt-orange and pastel hues along with light fragrances while the soil is still warming.
  • Johnny Jump-Up (Viola cornuta):  A delicate, cool-season variety with a light, cucumber-like scent that performs best in the mild temperatures of spring and autumn.

This mix grows reliably in large pots, raised beds, or traditional in-ground rows. One packet covers approximately 16 square feet—an ideal 4x4 foot plot. To maximize the signaling and soil benefits, direct sow these seeds once the danger of frost has passed and the soil has begun to warm.
