Description

Bambina Carrot - Oh Sweet Baby!

A baby carrot variety with slender, cylindrical blunt roots and a very small core. Very sweet tasting with smooth skin and crisp texture, this high yielding variety has a deep orange color that develops early.

Perfect for container growing and very adaptable to a variety of soils; they are excellent for both early and succession sowing.

History

Carrots originated in Europe and Central Asia. The first cultivated variety had branching purple roots and is believed to have been developed in Afghanistan. It migrated to the Mediterranean in the 14th century and then northwards. The orange varieties were developed in the Netherlands in the 17th century.

Uses

Coarsely or finely grated carrots are eaten raw as a salad. They are one of the most widely used vegetables they are cut, sliced, diced, cooked, steamed or juiced. Carrots are included in soups and stews and used in sauces and stocks.

Harvest Tip

Give carrots a good twist when you pull them up so that the leaves do not break off in your hand, but once they are up, cut off the leaves right away. Carrot tops may look pretty, but they keep growing and draw moisture and nourishment out of the roots, leaving them limp, wrinkled and tasteless.

    Bambina Carrots

Posted by N. Koestler on Jul 19, 2017

We started eating the Bambina carrots I planted this spring. They germinated really good. They grow long and straight. We are enjoying them with sandwiches for lunch. They are also a good size to just snack on. They bring back memories of eating carrots out of my Grandpas garden when I was a child. I definitely will plant them again.

    Sweet & crunchy!

We love these carrots and have grown them for two seasons in Montana. Last year we had a few plants that we didn't harvest before the snow - they were still good the following spring!! They have a great crispy crunch and are nice and sweet.
