Rosalie's Big Rosy Tomato - (Lycopersicon lycopersicum) |
|
Indeterminate. Introduced by Underwood Gardens, grown privately in MD for about 200 years. Each plant produces large numbers of smooth pink/red fruits with flavor that rivals Brandywine's. Ripens evenly, has a smooth blossom end, does not rot resting on soil or deteriorate quickly after picking as Brandywine does. Excellent variety.
Certified Organic.

We found the taste to be excellent. |
| The Master Gardeners at the historic Francis Land House Heirloom Vegetable Garden in Virginia Beach, Virginia are providing feedback on the donated seeds. Our garden consists of 35 raised beds, each four feet by twenty feet. The garden receives full sun all day and is fertilized with a combination of compost and commercial organic fertilizer. Six week old plants were set out on 15 April. The first fruit was picked the second week of July. We found the taste to be excellent although we did not achieve near the size...3 pounds mentioned in the catalog. The fruit was uniform, no cracking, usually 1 to 2 pounds in weight. Yield was very good until the hot dry spell hit us and then by mid August the vines stopped producing. We have grown German Johnson for a number of years and found that Rosy compared very favorably to it. |
