The Nodding Onion is a native plant. Blooms June through early fall. Erect stems hold globes of drooping or nodding, white, bell-shaped flowers that turn lilac as they age and form exquisite seed heads.
A member of the lily family, Native Americans and early settlers used nodding onion to flavor food and to treat croup, colic, colds, fevers, kidney stones, dropsy and respiratory disorders.

Black Seed Sesame was first domesticated in India, cultivated at Harappa in the Indus Valley between 2250 and 1750 BC.
Single stem with oval leaves and tubular flowers are yellow to blue or purple. Grown for its edible seeds in long pods that burst open when ripe. Seeds are dry roasted and used whole in cooking or ground and used as a paste for flavor. Used extensively in Asian, East Indian and Mediterranean cuisines. Black varieties are prized in the Far East, which have a rich earthy, nutty flavor and have high amounts of protein, phosphorous, iron and magnesium.

Mexican Valerian is a hardy perennial with heads of sweetly scented pink or white flowers that bloom June to September.
Used as a perfume in the sixteenth century, and a medicinal herb since at least the time of ancient Greece and Rome. Commonly used against sleeping disorders, restlessness and anxiety, and as a muscle relaxant. Roots are harvested after leaf fall and dried to be used as a sedative. Valerian is a powerful nervine, carminative and antispasmodic and is beneficial to those suffering from nervous tension as it has none of the after effects felt when using addictive substances.
The United States Pharmacopeial Convention has accepted a valerian monograph for inclusion in the National Formulary (Pharmacopeial Forum, 1998). It is widely used as a sedative and antispasmodic in the United States.

Indian Summer Rudbeckia is also known as the Black-Eyed Susan and Orange Coneflower.
This rhizomatous perennial grows to 3' tall and has branched stems, green, slightly hairy leaves and daisy like, spectacular orange-yellow flowers with dark brown- black "eyes" or centers mid-Summer.
This classic native meadow perennial prefers loamy, moist soil in full sun or part-shade. Propagate from seed or by division in spring or autumn. They are moderately to fully frost hardy.
Rudbeckia is named after Olof Rudbeck the Elder and his son Olof Rudbeck the Younger, Swedish botanists of the 17th/18th centuries.
