Labrador Violet or Alpine Violet is a charming, rare native plant.
Bright-lavender blooms appear non-stop for weeks in spring and early summer with another burst of bloom in autumn. Purplish/bronzy/green foliage is a perfect foil for the flowers and maintains its good looks all season.
Ground cover for small areas; also for rock gardens, and as a filler between stepping stones. Let spread in native gardens, naturalized areas. No serious insect or disease problems. Self-sows readily if happy. Edible, the mild-tasting leaves and flowers are bewitching in salads and as garnishes. Especially hard to find.
Perennial.
