The Purple Coneflower Echinacea is a native perennial to eastern and central North America, where they grow in moist to dry prairies and open wooded areas.

Well-adapted to almost any growing situation. Usually 2 to 3 feet tall, the single flower heads have purple petals and a raised, spiny center cone that is actually the seed head with sharp spines that resemble a stiff comb.

One of the very best butterfly attractants, it thrives in full sun or light shade and blooms heavily from July through September. Tolerates clay soils but thrives in well-drained soils. Tolerates both heat and drought.

Indian Summer Rudbeckia is also known as the Black-Eyed Susan and Orange Coneflower.

This rhizomatous perennial grows to 3' tall and has branched stems, green, slightly hairy leaves and daisy like, spectacular orange-yellow flowers with dark brown- black "eyes" or centers mid-Summer.

This classic native meadow perennial prefers loamy, moist soil in full sun or part-shade. Propagate from seed or by division in spring or autumn. They are moderately to fully frost hardy.

Rudbeckia is named after Olof Rudbeck the Elder and his son Olof Rudbeck the Younger, Swedish botanists of the 17th/18th centuries.

Perennial life span 3-5 years. Excellent as a cut flower.
